A growing number of attorneys are becoming certified in elder care law, specializing in legal issues such as advanced directives, estate planning and guardianship. Legal guardianship issues are particularly important when an elderly individual, for whom senior care services are being provided, is no longer able to make cognitive decisions. “Do-it-yourself” guidelines can also be found for documents such as advanced directives and simple wills. In addition there are public and private programs that offer legal advice to elderly people with limited financial resources.
